Farmington is a culturally rich community that is located in the Four Corners area of San Juan County. The Four Corners is known as the meeting point of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona. Farmington is situated about 185 miles northwest of Albuquerque and some 50 miles south of Durango, Colorado. Real estate options in this community consist of an array of old and new single-family homes in new home subdivisions and housing tracts, investment properties, condominiums and townhouses, undeveloped residential land and manufactured housing.

Historically, the region has been home to several Native American tribes, including the Navajo, Jicarilla Apache and Hopi nations. This heritage is evident today in the diverse array of southwestern arts and entertainment available throughout the community. The Farmington Museum honors this heritage with educational exhibits, while independently owned trading posts feature Native American arts and crafts. Annual events like the Totah Festival celebrate Native American culture on a larger scale. Additionally, Farmington’s location is within driving distance of many natural landmarks. One example is the Mesa Verde National Park in Cortez, where tribesmen once lived in the recesses of canyon walls. These villages, called cliff dwellings, were occupied between the 7th and 13th centuries.

Alongside the strong arts and recreation opportunities, Farmington also has an established economy. Employment opportunities are primarily in the oil, gas and mining industry, but retail trade is also strong. Public education is provided by Farmington Municipal Schools. The district serves about 10,000 students through 17 campuses with a low student-to-teacher ratio of 15.8.
